I received this lovely email from someone who recalls living in the pub in the 70s & 80s, when it was “The Moray Arms”. Lovely memories – Scotch pies and haggis and neeps 🙂 :
“I read with great interest your campaign to keep the Yorkshire Lass as a pub, which I support whole heartedly.
I used to live in the pub as a child, when it was known as “The Moray Arms” from approximately 1974 to 1980. My father was called Moray Irvine and he named the pub. My father was born in Scotland and was very proud of his roots, hence the whole pub was decorated with tartan. There was a tartan carpet and my father wore tartan trousers. Scotch pies and haggis and neeps were on the food menu.
My parents bought the pub when it was called The George Hotel which was very run down and they did a massive refurbishment.
I live in Harrogate and often pass the pub, but must admit it does look a very sad building at the moment.
My father passed away last year, and we did find some pictures but not many im afraid.
If you want to know anything else do contact me and I will try and help but I must admit its all a bit of a distant memory to me.
I wish you all the best with your campaign.
